Pupils inspire pupils - NORMA Germany supports education project

Maintal, Germany 22 January 2013

NORMA Germany GmbH (“NORMA Germany”), a subsidiary of NORMA Group AG, has been supporting the Einsteinchen (Little Einstein) student project of the AlbertEinstein-School in Maintal for several years. Under this program, high school students have made it their job to get pupils of local elementary schools excited about natural science subjects and mathematics. On 17 January, their efforts were honored by the district group Offenbach and East Hesse of the Association for the Metal and Electrical Engineering Industries in Hesse (“HESSENMETALL”). Harald Koch, head of HR at NORMA Germany and first deputy chairman of the district group handed purchase vouchers and participants’ certificates to the high school students who got involved in the project.

Little Einstein was founded in 2009 by the working group SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT (School-Economy) East Hesse as a format for high school pupils to interest their elementary school juniors in scientific issues. They independently develop experiments and run them together with fourth-graders, giving them first-hand scientific experience in a fun way. The project also aims to help pupils in the transition from elementary to high schools. “We have the greatest respect for the achievements of the Albert-EinsteinSchool students,” says Harald Koch. “They demonstrate a great amount of initiative. Their scientific experiments contribute to educating young people. This is also a contribution to the wider community.”

“We support Little Einstein both from a monetary and from an intellectual perspective because we believe in the concept,” adds Jens Wahl, Commercial Managing Director of NORMA Germany. “NORMA Germany has been supporting the project from day one, among other things by providing materials such as hose clamps and other joining elements.”

For many years, NORMA Germany has focused particularly on helping in the education and promotion of young talents across the Main-Kinzig district. The company regularly participates in the “Unternehmen in die Schulen” (“Businesses go to Schools”) initiative of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Hanau-Gelnhausen-Schlüchtern. Pupils in the region gain insight into the professional world and gather information on the training and hiring opportunities provided by NORMA Group. During the annual “Girls’ and Boys’ Day”, a national initiative supported inter alia by the German Ministry for Education and Research, NORMA Germany opens its doors to the youngest, introducing them to technical jobs.
